October 2005 11AM - 6PM Saturdays + Sundays

1 Borough Each Weekend:
Manhattan Oct. 1-2
Queens Oct. 8-9
The Bronx Oct. 15-16
Brooklyn Oct. 22-23
Staten Island Oct. 29-30

Who Can Participate
Open to all artists with studios in any of the 5 boroughs (you may choose to use your home if you do not have a separate studio). Destined to become the world's largest open studios program, NYC Citywide Open Studios will premier this October 2005.

As a participating artist you will open your studio to the public Saturday and Sunday, 11am to 6pm, during the one weekend your borough is scheduled. Example: If your studio address (or home address) is in Queens you will open your studio October 8th and 9th from 11am to 6pm. The other weekends we hope you will enjoy visiting artist’s studios in the other boroughs and consider volunteering.

Register now and receive all of these exciting benefits:

  • 1 image of your artwork on the Collector's DVD. The DVD showcases artwork by hundreds of NYC artists. Collectors, curators, art dealers, critics and other art enthusiasts will be exposed to your artwork long after the event is over. Your contact information is included so that you can be reached by interested persons. You receive a copy of the DVD for your portfolio.
  • Up to 5 images of your artwork to be included on the official website. The event website will allow visitors to search by many variables (medium, location, style, etc.) and print studio tour maps. The site will encourage visitors to buy artwork from NYC artists and visit studios by appointment year-round.
Your information on www.nycopenstudios.org will continue to be available until the 2006 event (and beyond if you participate again).
  • Inclusion in the printed official event map which will be distributed throughout the city.
  • Self-Promotion Kit including postcard invitations, posters, signs to guide visitors, and event maps.
  • Eligible for consideration in special opportunities (our preview of NYC Citywide Open Studios held at the PooL Art Fair was a recent example of this benefit)
  • 2 new exclusive exhibition opportunities have recently been announced for participating artists and more are on the way:
Read about The Square Foot Show being held in Chelsea at Art Gotham. Read about the Cocoa Bar series of exhibitions.
Once you are registered and have paid your registration fee you are immediately eligible for these shows.
  • Benefit from press coverage of the event.

Registration Fee:
$50 per artist.

How to Pay Your Registration Fee:
After registering, click here for instructions on how to pay your registration fee.

Suggested donation:
Participants are encouraged (but not required) to donate 20% of their sales made during their open studio to help us expand the event and develop other important programs.

It is important to understand that your registration fee and optional donation form the foundation of the budget and only cover a portion of the program’s costs. We must raise funds from individual donors, foundations and corporate sponsors to pay for the rest of NYC Citywide Open Studio’s expenses. Donors decide to contribute their financial support based largely on the knowledge that you, the registrant, believe this event and organization is important enough to support through your registration fee and donation. Thank you in advance for your contribution to the event's costs.

Deadlines:

August: Full benefit deadline extended. Register now to receive all benefits.
Due to popular demand, we are extending the full benefit deadline. Register now to make sure you receive the complete benefit package.

October: You can register to participate right until the event opens in your borough, but you will not be included on the DVD or printed map.

Upcoming Opportunities

The Emerging Art Fair:
Pre-register now to be notified when entry forms are available. Applying for The Emerging Art Fair will be free. We are planning the show's debut for 2006, with a 2005 entry deadline. Any artist who does not currently have commercial gallery representation is eligible to apply. The show is open to all mediums including, but not limited to, Painting, Sculpture, Photography, New Media, Mixed Media, Installations and Video. If you are selected by the panel of jurors (prestigious names to be announced) you will receive your own exhibition booth. There will be approximately 100 artists selected. If you are already an EAI Artist Member, you are automatically pre-registered for this and all other EAI opportunities.

Special Exhibition Opportunities:
We are always working on creating exhibition and other opportunities for our member artists and we notify artist members as they become available. A recent example of this was our preview exhibition of NYC Citywide Open Studios in the Pool Art Fair which was only available to artists who registered to participate in NYC Citywide Open Studios by June 30.

Become and EAI Ambassador:
This is an easy volunteer opportunity for you to help support EAI and all of our artist members. Your primary responsibility will be acting as EAI's voice to your friends, family and business associates. Read more and volunteer to be an EAI Ambassador by either checking the box when registering as an artist member or sending an email to jesse@isupportart.org . (Example: EAI Ambassador's are currently distributing the NYC Citywide Open Studios call for artists to all of the artists they know.)

A Little More About our Mission:

No matter if you are an independent emerging artist or an established artist with an upcoming museum retrospective we will have opportunities available. Our support is focused on independent emerging artists, but programs like NYC Citywide Open Studios are open to all artists who meet the geographic requirement.

Our goal is to make a dent in the "starving artist" cliché. We believe too few artists are able to support themselves based solely on their art. All of our programs are designed to have a substantial and lasting impact on our artist members' careers. The Emerging Art Fair and NYC Citywide Open Studios is only the beginning. We have a long wish list of much needed grant and exhibition programs which will be unveiled as we grow.
